Cone Beam Scans
Cone beam computed technology (cone beam or 3D scan), has already radically transformed the way that we as periodontists can gather information, with the result being an ability to diagnose and treatment plan in a manner that previously could not even be imagined. With cone beam-produced images, hundreds of “slices” of information are gathered and assembled by software into three-dimensional views. The data obtained allows pre-surgical treatment planning. Cone beam images are reconstructed by software into three-dimensional planes, each of which allow for interaction and manipulation with the ability for us to demonstrate to our patients the entire planning process.
Dental cone beam CT is used by our office in patient treatment planning involving:
- accurate placement of dental implants
- evaluation of the jaw, sinuses, nerve canals and nasal cavity
- determining bone structure and tooth orientation
