Gingivectomy

A gingivectomy is the total removal of a portion of gingiva (gum) from in and around a tooth or teeth.  Reshaped gums are often healthier, since the pocket depths of spaces between the gums and teeth are made shallower and easier to brush clean as well as more aesthetically pleasing.  Operative healing is usually uneventfully and only takes a couple of weeks.
